As an update, I did the Wolf(s) and needless to say this is one trail I have no intention to repeat! You spend more time going downhill to get to a summit and then turn around and spent more time going uphill to get back to the road (at least that is what it seemed like to me. And I was going for a mellow hike today!!) I went out and back from Rt. 112.
The West peak is a short uphill off the trail and is the highest of the two. I found no canister and no view. There is a decent view from a large boulder just before the final ascent to the West knob. It is wise to continue to the East knob as that is the best view of the whole trip. Again no canister and the spur trail to this knob is easy to miss.
The trail is in good shape but I think it is perpetually wet.
