I've passed "The Ark" before but haven't stayed there. I know HarryK, Guiness, and Shin stayed there this past february when we did the Dix range and they said it was fairly inexpensive.

I'm still really iffy on this, but in response to Freddy query about carcamping, there are still a few DEC Campgrounds open until Columbus Day or later. Sharp Bridge is unfortunately now closed, but Paradox Lake (on the way up for us downstate types), Wilmington Notch, and Fich Creek Ponds (closer to Lake Placid) are all still open. There's also camping at the Loj.

I just spoke with the Ark Trail. No problem setting up a tent behind the motel. The person I spoke with didn't know what the fee would be. The only facilities however, would be our room. Dosn't bother me.

I'm in too! I'll have to figure out how I'm going to meet up with you guys as I plan on doing the Eagle slide (as long as I can recruit at least one other to do it also) that day. Then i'll head over to RPR in time for the celebration :D !

Neil,

I think I want to be there for this one, although I might hike up (and down) from the Giant side. Is anyone going to do that, and what time would we start?

I've been to the Ark before, and it sounds like a good place to meet. I'd probably come up Friday night, stay at the Ark, and head back either Saturday night or Sunday morning. Is there a room I can crash in? I'll pay my fair share, and sleep on the 'floor' (with an inflatable bed).

MC, JH, FF, or anyone else from SE New York area: is anyone carpooling?

Whoo-hoo!

It's about time! :D Good luck, my friend. I'll probably be paddling around the Adirondacks somewhere that day. -Bob

A wish for you and your son, paraphrased from an old Irish Blessing:

"May the trail rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
and may the sun shine warm upon your face..."

Great! I'll finally get to meet you!
Some people will go the Ridge Trail route up and down. Departure 10am. Myself and others are going up from New Russia (departure 8am) and down the Ridge trail.
There may be enough of you that sharing a room at the Ark would be a pretty cheap sleep. Its 46 bucks incl tax. The rooms have 2 double beds and room for at least one on the floor.

I'll miss it by a day!! We'll be in town on Oct 2nd for the Oktoberfest at Whiteface and I will do extensive peakbagging for the week after!!! Will probably stay in Lake Placid so My Wife will have something to do while I'm out there. If anyone is in town that week, drop Me a PM and we could meet for a hike (or a beer).

Departure time from New Russia is now 9:00
Ridge Trail 10:30

The forecast is looking good!

Hi Neil, Rather than PM you back I thought I would post instead.......It looks like Matt and I, maybe Jay and others, are going to start from Chapel Pond. Matt and I are hiking Fri/Sat/Sun w tentative plans for Whiteface/Esther on Fiday, Giant/RPR on Sat, Basin/Saddleback on Sunday. We're going to the Ark for the celebration and bringing guitars so bring your flute for some jams and a new and improved BTBW reprise 2 :D  :p perhaps even done while sober!

I'm not sure if we are going to do the whole ridge now or just "bag" the peaks on Sat., who knows........ in any case I'm looking forward to this a lot as I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun! Thanks, Fred

Neil, I'm sorry I can't make it. I have to work this weekend. Looks like you got a good group lined up for your big finish. Have fun! :)

You guys have the responability of entertaining my wife Sylvie and son Daniel all the way up the Ridge trail with your light hearted nuttiness. Thanks in advance.

For the post hike fête I've ordered steamed tofu on a bed of boiled celery followed by unsalted brown rice, boiled wheat and plain low fat yoghurt (served at room temp). Herb tea will be on tap of course. Light's out is at 9:00 right after I read aloud 46 chapters from the bible. Looking forward to it.

I just phoned kind Mrs. Totdt at the Ark Trail and requested dinner for 15 and she felt it was very short notice but I managed to turn on enough charm...However I didn't want to introduce the idea of a vegetarian meal just yet. So whoever wanted one I will intro the subject with her tomorrow when she calls me with specific menu ideas.
Also, she indicated that doing the meal would be more of a favour than anything else so we'll have to treat her real nice....
BTW the motel is all booked up now.

I certainly hope nothing so serious transpires as to warrant... shhhlick.
BTW, you got the whole friggin' Good Book memorized or what?

Neil, I can't be there, I just sprained my ankle AGAIN today :( I think my right ankle is now rubber-like... It's not a bad one, but I'll have to give it a rest. Anyway, have fun, and congrats in advance!

46rs are meeting in Keene Valley Saturday too

I just noticed this:

http://www.adk46r.org/fall05.html

Their meeting is at 5:00 in Keene Valley on Saturday! It says that there will be showers from 3-5 also. It's too late to sign up for the formal part of the meeting, but I'm sure people could stop by at 5:00 for the social hour.

Logistics

Hey, does anyone know if there is water on the NR side? Or should we just bring a lot with us?

Also, I have a couple of Walkie Talkies I can bring if anyone thinks they would be useful. I'm currently set to Channel 3.3
