Does anyone know what summit they are standing on in that comercial. It is probably bald in Eagle Bay becouse it is close to Utica NY. Also, does anyone have a problem with them advertizing beer to young people standing on a cliff?

I havent seen the commercial but I'd like to point out that in my opinion, Saranac brews some of the best bottled beers in the world. Try their Belgian White.

mmmm, beer......

It is in fact Bald Mtn. I think the commercial is pretty cheesy personally...most of the hikers I know don't wear team football jerseys to hike in. :p They are a great brewery...they just came out with an Imperial IPA that kicks butt! (literally).

Drinking one as I speak. :) Bird works there ;) (graphic designer). The brew just came out on Thurs. Heres the lowdown on the Imp IPA: Saranac Imperial IPA is part our new High Peak Series, a line of beers that are bigger, more complex and flavorful; beers that are meant to be sipped and savored. Saranac Imperial IPA is brewed with 10 different malts and 10 different hops to make a delectably flavorful and complex Imperial IPA - at 85 IBU's and 8.5 % alc/vol.

Beer Style: Imperial India Pale Ale
Malt Selections: 2 row, vienna, carapils
Hop Selections: Cascade, Columbus, Centennial
Color: Amber
Mouthfeel / Body: Medium
Food Companions: Spicy Food
Alcohol By Volume: 8.5%
Original Gravity: 20
Availability: Seasonal

Erie Canal Bike Ride

One of the options along the Erie Canal Bike Ride last summer was a brewery tour. It was the only time I've ever had a police escort going to get a beer!

8.5%?? Wow, you were right about the IPA kicking butt!!! I wish they had better distribution here in NH.

Thanks! Is it an american or English yeast? Hmmmm Vienna malt isn't that common in an IPA....With a taste from a bottle, and the info here, I think I could brew a batch of my own.....Not only that, but I think I have all the ingredients in stock.

Speaking of beer... Hear a bout the Maine brewery that got into doo-doo for having a picture of santa drinking a beer? Sheesh!!!! They have half naked women dancing around on the Bud commercials, but santa quaffing a brew???

bvack on topic... I haven't seen the commercial. I don't know if that's because the commercial isn't shown in Canada, or because I don't watch TV.

Ipa

I did the art for the Imperial IPA...
but not the commercials :p
The new IPA label has a map of the High Peaks, Skylight mt etc. Some proceeeds from the beer sales benefit trail maint. in the High peaks.
Its my fav Saranac so far... 8.5 % ALC can't go wrong.. :) :)

I'll have to check for the High Peak Series but I have found Saranac at the Jersey Shore & at the local package store in Colchester CT. Just bought the seasonal 12 Pack. :D

almost useless Saranac trivia

About 10 years ago I used to be able to get Saranac in the local liquor store in Bedford, MA. I really enjoyed the Pale Ale. Unfortunately they stopped carrying it.

On a side note, I seem to remember that the brewery that makes Saranac also makes (or made) Utica Club and was one of the breweries that produced "Billy Beer" in honor of Jimmy Carter's brother. Somewhere down my mom's basement on LI are some empty cans we saved.

Anyway, if anyone's seen Saranac for sale in the Western suburbs of Boston please post. I'm getting thirsty.

IS it actually available now in stores? I couldn't find it last night at a place that carries 1000+ beer varieties, and they really seem to be in the know when you ask them questions.

I would like to get some carmel porter, but all the Saranac the grocery stores will stock is the regular ordinary ones. The only way to get that one is to buy the gift box sampler. Even then, you have to read the label carefully because it's often a 2-3@ of only a few offerings, including ones I don't really care for.
Another reason to come to the Catskill Winter Gathering! :D

I'll start a separate thread...

F.X. Matt Brewing (otherwise known as West End Brewing Company) originally opened in 1888 in Utica. Shultz and Dooley were popular talking stein characters in ads of 40 years ago. They contract to brew several other brands, including Brooklyn Black Chocolate, a stout to knock you over. There's a nice brewery tour if you get a chance to go there with liberal samples offered at the end (including their own root beer for the designated driver). Supposedly limited to 3 but not strictly. The tour used to be free but they started charging $3 a little while ago... don't know what it is now.

Saranac Black Diamond Bock

Black Diamond Bock just came off the line today (*the beer line that is) It features a Black Bear getting ready to go down a Black Diamond ski run for all of you skier/snowboarders :)

The Imperial Ipa might be sold out already, but you can call Saranac Info at
1 315 624 2417 to see where it is.

(I cant even get a case for Christmas and I work here)

Brewery tours at 5 bucks now, but you get drinks :)
