Hopefully someone will restore my apparently failing memory. I'm planning to take my wife (not a very strong hiker) up the Snapper Trail on Mooselauke Sunday. Hopefully we can get a reasonable distance up the Carriage Road- or if she is feeling strong enough even reach the summit. She wouldn't enjoy Gorge Brook due the rockier treadway.
Even though I've done this trip a gazillion times usually the standard loop up Gorge Brook and down the Carriage Road my memory isn't matching the WM Guide and Map. My recollection is that to start on the Snapper Trail you would turn left after crossing the bridge and then it leaves on the right in a few tenths of a mile. Whereas to head up Gorge Brook you would turn right after the bridge.

Thanks for any help!!!!!

Harry

Gorge Brook and Snapper are together for the 2/3 mile or so. There's a bridge right below the lodge that crosses the Baker, cross that.

Turn left. After 100 yards you'll pass a trail junction, turn right. Left is the Hurricane trail, right is Gorge Brook.

You'll go up along the right bank of Gorge Brook. The trail crosses (right->left) on a log bridge, and there's a trail junction. Gorge Brook goes right, Snapper goes left.

There have been several relocations in the past 15 years up there. Both trails are now fairly even footing, although there are more rock steps on Gorge Brook. The distance to the summit is identical on either route.
