At this point, it's all rain here in NJ. Even the catskills is not supposed to get the 6+ inches anymore, looks like 1-4" with the southern cats getting less. Might make this weekend hike not as good a snowshoe hike as I had hoped. :(

Weather is supposed to be nice both days though.

Matt, looking forward to meeting ya on Saturday. I THINK the 9am would be meeting time in Woodland Valley but I defer to Carol who is the hike leader. Should be a great day. I just hope I don't wear myself out too much on friday...

Now I am scared. Never been called the hike leader. Needless to say, I will be "sweeping" from the back of the pack. It seems like its another carry the snow shoes hike. Thats all I've been on this year.

Nothing much happening here yet. It's 36* at 1200' and maybe an inch or two has come down. If the temp drops, we're predicted for 12" or more. We'll see. Cannon is desperate for snow. It sounds like VT is getting some real accumulation, however. There was more snow on the ground in Ocean County NJ last week than in Franconia.

That's the truth. While I pray for snow in the northeast, I can't WAIT for the snow to melt down here so I can get out on the trails with my bike. So desperate for a ride that I'm probably heading down south for the weekend.

Come on SNOW!! (Just not at my house)

What a major disappointment  No snow = school today! Oh well, tomorrow we are off to Saranac Lake for Winter Carnival. Adirondack Aloha is the theme this year and I know much fun awaits us in the (hopefully) snowy streets of Saranac!

Those total predictions keep dropping!!!

It's great to be in that "...more snow North and West of the city" belt.

May I just add, 'wahoo'?

It was freezing rain and sleet from about midnight till 6:00am.

Then it got a little colder & changed to snow... the large flake wet snow though. Now they're only calling for 4 - 8" in my area... I'm bummed...

forget the snow -

I just think ist awesome to see MR X with the motorhead t shirt - I myself being a loyal metal head since I first heard ride the lighning in 1984.

Didn't think there were many of us in the hills.

Twig, nice Carnaval pics! The "woman in the moon" seems to be very popular! :D
Meo,if you're going to Montmorency,bring your crampons!
You need them just to walk up the ice mound.
ANd if you have time, check out Valcartier Village Snowpark
It's only 20 miles out of Quebec, and has some awesome snow tube rides!

I was just thinking year has been way warmer than normal - with the expecttion of the blizzard - which really wasn't all bad that - unless you lived on the coast, then it was bad.

I can't remember a time when the alpine zone had so little snow and ice, and many ice climbs were "out" - I have a short memory though. and yet - I still hear people at work, etc.....complaining "this winter is so bad". It seems like the white are getting some good snow today though -

It's rained here, in Bath Maine, all night, but now its changed to heavy wet snow & really starting to stick to the roads etc. Maybe there is hope for "some" snow yet from this storm system. Down by the ocean it's wild-- w/strong wind.

Enjoy

Snow - Where?

They called for a "major" storm yesterday. We were supposed to get dumped on from 10-20" -
Wellllll so far it's just raining slush!
So much for that dopler radar - better to just stick your head out the window.
I WANT SNOW! :(

Big ole wet snow flakes here in Lyman, ME. just got done XC skiing out in the woods and on the lake near my house. It was quite a workout fighting through the slush. Supposed to have 8"-14" by tonight, but dangit, it's also supposed to warm up again next week. Where the heck did winter go?!?!

Its odd how temperatures go. I've lived near Phillie for about 30 years and have had more single digit temps this year than in all the previous years combined. Finally just lost the snow covering the ground from two weeks ago. Temps hit 50 almost everyday this week.

12-14" of heavy wet snow now in Franconia, and the temp has settled down to about 27*. I did my late afternoon snowshoe loop just before dark. It usually takes about an hour if I hustle. Today it took over 1.5 hours because I had to release so many blocking trees from heavy snow loads. Reminds me of The Ice Storm. Lights are flickering, too . . . .

LOL...yes Dan, that sculpture was quite popular - we discussed it a bit while whatching it come to life...very sensuous and representative of nature.
:)

Meo...
I didn't see anyone fall or any dead bodies, but one fella in ice climbing gear did come running after us going on in a foreign language (hehe) about something...LOL...I told the peeps I was with that we needed to back off from the edge of the ice.
He sure got his excercise chasing after photographers like us.

Canada is so much more relaxed than we are though....

Same old winter here in Maine...spring one day, blizzard the next - gotta love it!

Looks like 12" or 13" of very wet snow in Madison (near chocorua). All the trees are weighted down. A big limb crashed onto my roof last night, can't wait to see what that looks like. Lost power for about six hours, reminding me of the beauty of electricity! Candle light was nice, but I had just turned on the coffee maker when the power went out, NOOOOO!!! Time to buy a generator.
This snow will be sticky on the snowshoes, but I'll be out there tomorrow anyway!
