my sierra designs booties have been great for many years. mtnhardware had a sweet pair with thick treaded soles, but it was quite a bit heavier.

they are great to wear around camp, in a hut or shelter, to the privy or randomn bush at 3AM when its -5 or around the house if you've heat is out:)

very very cozy.

...The slipper type with sole from Mountain Hardwear are the way to go. Warm and supportive....sub zero booties.....Alittle hard to find because they are so good.
A little hard to find because MH lost their contract with the Chinese manufacturer. They should be easier to find (and improved further) by next season according to Hilton's Tent City.

My wife and I have the Sub Zero SL Booties, and they are excellent. I bought the last pair of larges that Hilton's had,and found some for my wife at an online place. I was convinced to get the MH booties after my wife didthe "China Express" coming down from the bunkhouse at Carter. They have firm soles with grids on them, and they hold up well. I believe they listed at $65.00.Nice to get the boots off when your winter camping.

Hikingfish: (re waterproofness or Koflach liners)

The soles are, the outsides are more or less waterproof. I have never had an issue in my well packed down campsite....but if you find them getting wet, just tie a couple safeway bags around them.

People mentioned traction: my booties have a cordura sole. Adequate for level snow.

My booties came with 1/4 inch ensolite midsoles--more recent ones probably come with a more modern closed-cell foam midsole. Some of these midsoles will crush under your weight and lose insuation. I put felt innersoles in mine to provide extra padding and insulation. Spare mitten liners or socks can also be used for the same purpose.

I have a pair of Sierra Designs from REI that look like the Hut Bootie. Nice, but not essential gear. I like the adjustable elastic cord that fits over the outside of the MEC Hut Bootie which would help keep the fit snug and avoid the "slipping around". The Sierra's have an inner elastic, non-adjustable, that helps the fit over the heel. Someone had the idea of cutting a piece of foam from an old sleeping pad and using it as a footbed in the bootie for a bit more insulation.

booties

I've got an old pair of SD booties that have straps on them that cross the top of the foot in an X. I like them. A bit bulky in a bag, but toasty warm. I don't think they are waterproof though so not sure I'd wear them in the snow much.

A very nice gentlemen from this board offered his old pair which he doesn't use anymore. The booties were quite warm and added a lot to the hut experience!

They got a bit wet after walking close to the area where everyone had removed their clothing and where water was on the floor, but nonethelees, great gear to have!

I own cheap ones

I use some feather filled house slippers. They are as light wieght as the "real" ones give or take an oz. or 2. They keep my feet nice and warm with some wool socks on. The also have a grippy bottom on them that my old "real" down booties didn't have. Here is the best part. I spent $6 bucks on them at the local Wally World.
