I'm back to iffy for this one, especially with more snow/ice possible on Friday. Plus, the game on Sunday is a 3 PM kick-off, which means I need to be in Manchester, oh, at least by 8 AM. I guess I'll wait and see what happens with the weather before I make the final decision.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in a trip report:

I climbed Mount P-13 in Foxboro on Saturday. Special Equipment Required: Grill, steak tips, Black Fly Stout. Chevy Van not required, but helped out greatly on the ascent. Shared the summit with 15 other hearty souls - funny enough, we were all wearing blue! We did linger too long, and didn't get off the peak before dark. Planning on making a return trip this Sunday if anyone is interested in joining the group "hike". Looking to get an earlier start this weekend.

Hmmm... make this #7 on my list! :D

The minus 10 overnight temps on sat don't really help the case either. I am also playing by ear;

The only way I am heading up is if there is a resonable shot at the ravines - if they are going to be avy prone all weekend - I personally can't justify the trip up to freeze my arse off for nothing.

This forecast is calling for -31 overnight, that seems excessive to me, but who knows. - that is saying 5K -, but the valleys look to be about minus 10

The nice thing about skiing in those temperatures is that the slopes tend to be empty because the sane people stay inside. :D

It's showing a low of 2 overnight. The really funny thing is that Gig's link shows -36 on Sunday night but if you search for Gorham, it shows a low of -7. Hard to believe that there would be an almost 30 degree difference!

yea - doubtful it will be minus 30 down low - prolly around minus 10.

have to remember a coozy so the beer don't freeze while in hand. Have to make a big Mutha F'ing fire....so hot satan himself would be sweating... ;)

We survived the Winter Gathering a few years ago in the ADKs when it was -35°F the first night (okay, we slept in a motel that night) -26°F the second night, and around -10°F the third night. A big bonfire is indeed the key; we had our coats off while that thing was roaring!

And yes, protect your beer from freezing

Well that shouldn't be a problem with The Caveman and Marchowes there!
(says she who is staying in a nice and toasty hotel with hot tub!)

Not deciding what I am doing until Friday - I want to see how the the friday storm affects the snowpack and how the weather will be on Sat. If either of those rule out a ravine climb or a reasonable shot of hiking wash, adams, etc... then its not worth me driving up to the gorham area. If the ice rebuilds down low, I might consider doing that as a back-up plan on sat

have to see....

Being lazy here as I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but need to ask if this gathering is a Friday-Sunday event or will it spill over past Sunday night and into Monday as some of us have the holiday off?

A friend is visiting me Saturday and we're hiking the Blue Hills so the earliest I could be there would be Saturday night or Sunday AM even. Thus I wondered if I'd be wasting my time showing up Sunday if most folks were heading home then.

Can people chime in with their planned schedules or is this too much to ask on the Internet. :D

P.S. If DoubleBows temp readings listed above are correct... ... then I might be joing Pat and Audrey at the Mt. Madison Motel instead of camping out. :p

I cannot arrive until Sunday, when I am hiking into Tucks with student to begin winter-long snowpit/weather study. Will stop by Barnes to see if anyone is still around on Sunday evening, and if so, will stay over for a hike on Monday.

I would be psyched for Moriah, Cabot, N Twin, or Isolation, or perhaps Wildcat D with b/c skis, on Monday, if anyone is interested.

The forecast is getting a little warmer. Saturday night is now looking at being 8, which isn't too crazy. I'll prolly be at Barnes for the night on Saturday so I don't have to "curb my enthusiasm". Sunday is still looking a bit chilly -4 so I'll have to play that one by ear.

Rght now, Jeff and I are looking at doing Saddleback & The Horn on Saturday and the Wildcats on Sunday. Monday I'll prolly do Old Speck. PM if you're interested in any of these!

Wildcat ski Trail conditions

Does anybody know the conditions of the x-c/b-c trail coming off the back side of Wildcat Mountain?
