So far, so good... it started snowing lightly in Waterville Valley at about 5am, and has been light to moderate and steady since. Looks like about 2" down at 10:15am, with the visibility down to about a quarter mile in steady snow.

Woo hoo! BW here we come!!!! :)

We're in the jackpot slot here on the frontier between southeastern NH and the Lakes Region. Just shy of 10" as of 10:45 a.m., with heavy snowfall continuing. Two inches per hour since 7:30. Better than I hoped, from looking at the radar image earlier this morning. :D :D :D

.......time for the wife to get out the frying pan  ;)

New snow reports from Monday's storm;

Thornton 2"
Waterville Valley 7"
Lonesome Lake 4"
Cannon Mt 3-4"
Wildcat ski area 8"
Carter Notch 7"
Saddleback, ME 4"
Sugarloaf 7"
Jay Peak VT 4-5"

A report from Freeport Maine said 14" :D

At least the January thaw took place before the annual gathering camp-out this year

A very *scant* seven inches by my measure

Waterville Valley 7"

I wish I lived in that part of WV... I would have said I had between 3 and 4 inches on the top of my car last night, and there wasn't any significant accumulation overnight. My buddy the ski instructor was hurling invective this AM and steadfastly refused to shovel or snow-blow what he said was no more than two inches in his driveway, about half a mile from my house.

Maybe they had more up the mountain, but since it was cold all day and what we had at 1500 feet was light'n fluffy, I doubt it was THAT much more.

WV XC area reports 7" new, 6-9" on the trails (up from 4-7") after grooming, but kept the 18-22" in the woods the same. They are not 100% open at this time :( But it is better than last weekend...

The heaviest amount I could find was Gardiner, Maine, 20 inches! So they did just fine. We had 3 or so....not very good. Thats ok. Hopefully Friday delivers.

"What are we going to call this?" I remember when I worked up at a ski area in the early 1980's, that was the regular question of the day, regarding new snow fall totals

I thought that the new snow at WV yesterday was more like 4" too. There were new drifts up at the junction of the Sosman & Mt T trails, and the cover on Tangent - Periphery - Lower Tippey was much better than I expected. Are you over on the River Rd Drew?

The report from over in Downeast Maine was made by one with an ever present grin, usually dressed in gear from Bean's, occasionally there is a plaid shirt involved, but there is always a hint of enthusiasm ;)

I live over in the WV suburbs...

On Osceola Road... my co-mmuter buddy lives on River Road, in what he likes to call the country. Clear out a few trees, and Tiger Woods could probably hit his house from my house with a good tee shot, that's how fine we have to slice things in the Valley.

Glad to hear even a 4-inch, 7-inch snow fall freshened things up on the trails, Cath... pickins were getting slim over the weekend. There were several unfortunate moments that I felt like I had completely forgotten how to ski. No amount of commands issued from the brain made any difference whatsoever in my direction of travel.

Just got a dusting around here on Monday, and this coming Friday does not look very promising:

LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...

THIS ALL POINTS TO A MARGINAL EVENT...WITH SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AT THE CUSP OF WARNING CRITERIA POSSIBLE. GIVEN ITS STILL A WAYS OFF...AND THE MARGINAL SNOW AMOUNTS...WILL HOLD OFF ON ANY WATCHES FOR NOW...BUT EXPECT THEY WILL BE CONSIDERED ON FUTURE SHIFTS DEPENDING ON FUTURE MODEL TRENDS.
Disappointing! The snow is still around, but it is solid concrete after the thaw/freeze, and we badly need some fresh snow on top of it.

By the end of December I was ready to give my StabilIcers away, now I am glad I still have the beasts. But I hate having to use them.

Mohamed expect a nice 4-8 for Thorton. Unfortunatly..that are gets shadowed very badly but will still be nice to see some new snow! -Mattl

For another perspective of snow, last night the Augusta, GA area had .4 inches of snow and everyone down here were in a panic with bread and milk flying off the selves....... This displaced northerner had to sit back and laugh.

As a side note my local news down here showed some footage of Mondays snow from Winchendon, MA. Made me miss the white stuff.

In Thornton it is still snowing, about 4" already on the ground. Not an epic storm, but way better than the dusting we got on Monday. We can again put the stabilicers away and get out the snowshoes :D :D :D

Looking like 5" in Waterville Valley at 10am

Couldn't find the tape measure, but I stuck my hand in a fresh patch... about 5 inches, medium moisture content. It's been all snow here, started lightly around 10pm last night, has been light to moderate since about 5am. The 'freezing precip' line is just a few miles south of here according to the radar.

As Mohamed said, this should nicely freshen things up for snowshoes and x-c skiing...

The snow has stopped in Lincoln and there is 5" of fresh, somewhat sticky snow on the ground right now. This is just what was needed to stick to the bullet proof ice we found in some places.

Atticus and I hiked Franconia Ridge yesterday from Lafayette to Flume and there was very little snow above treeline. We ran into Ed Hawkins on Waumbek the other day and he reported that it was very bony when he hiked the Lafayette and Lincoln loop last weekend. That's exactly what we ecountered.

So hopefully this will cover up the hard ice down low and fill in the between the rocks up high.

Yeah it was helpful for bonding in the mountains. Also the squalls sat night with the arctic cold front should drop several more inches! -Mattl
