Saw this in the latest "Bethel Citizen" that came out 14 July. Thought it would be useful to put up here
"Important road and bridge work within the York Pond Fish Hatchery and along York Pond Road will affect hiker access to several trailheads in the Kilkenny region of the White Mountain National Forest this summer.
The work is scheduled to begin in mid-August and run through December 2005.
The project will include replacing a road bridge over Cold Brook. During the bridge replacement, public vehicles will not have access beyond the hatchery parking area at Cold Brook. Hikers wishing to access the east end of the York Pond Trail, Bunnell Notch Trail, or the south end of the Unknown Pond Trail will be required to walk approximately two miles along the York Pond Road to these trailheads.
Hikers wishing to access Unknown Pond may choose the north end of this trail as an alternative. The trailhead is located near the end of the Mill Brook Road off Route 110 in Stark. However, access to Mt. Cabot and Mt. Cabot Cabin will require additional effort, as accessto the Mt. Cabot trail from the west remains closed.
During work along other sections of the York Pond Road during this period, visitors may encounter delays ranging from a few minutes to a few hours.
No road work will occur on weekends or holodays.
Forest Service officials regret the inconvenience to hikers; however, the road condition is in serious need of upgrading and repair to meet travel needs and safety concerns. Patchwork efforts over the recent years have not been adequate to address these issues.
For more information please contact the White Mountain National Forest, Androscoggin Ranger District, at (603) 466-2713 or TTY (603) 466-2856."
