Interesting how they set out to respond to a call for help from one hiker and wound up rescuing an additional three others that they ran into on the way!
 
That is a weird coincidence, because I did a AMC hike a few weeks ago, and we encountered three guys on Little Haystack or Lincoln who had no idea where they were, no hiking gear whatsoever, and had actually slept overnight on the summit. One of us gave them water and told them how to get to the Greenleaf Hut. But I think I remember that they were from Albany, NY, not Easton, MA, so it must have been a different group.

I don't think I'd call that particularly unusual...

and had actually slept overnight on the summit.
Sleeping on the summit might be a little less common, but it might be preferable to wandering around in the dark without lights.
