I am looking for a short warm up hike Friday...

DB, are you staying at Hiker's? If so, that is also my plan for Friday Night.

I'll be goin' all posh and stuff this time around and will be staying at Joe Dodge Lodge w/Shamie and her dad. I'm planning to try to get a ride from Crawford to CMR after the traverse, hang out for a bit, and then to somehow get back to JDL. I'm also planning to do a warm up hike of either Potash or Iron Mtn on Friday afternoon, if anyone is interested in joining us.

Jay your in Box is full. The new number has the same area code as before 808-4756. (It's almost never on & I don't know how to chack messages so having the number out doesn't really matter much)

we'll said - last year we had roughly 35-40 degree temps, decent wind and lots of water - and I firmly believe many of us were in intial stage hypothermia. fingers crossed, but weekend is looking decent - hopefully we'll be up there in shorts :)

I did fine, you guys just need to hike faster... HAHA! :) Just kidding, After Jean fell down and put a nasty dinger in his hand and him and Nat left, I was solo from pretty much Adams on down except for the small group I was leapfrogging (they weren't doing the summits so I'd pass them on the trail, then they'd pass me while I tagged the summit and so-forth). When I'm solo, I hike faster and it becomes more mental than anything else, kind of lost in my own world.

P.S. Mike: this is why I rather not save my sent PMs, they just take up space!!!

I don't mind a GOOD 15 year scotch, but can't afford to buy it  I tend toward the lighter liquors when the weather gets warm - G&T, etc. I haven't yet decided what I am going to bring in that category.

I'd like to think I will be up socializing with old friends and new, but after the traverse one drink may send me to my tent :D

I'm getting pretty excited for this weekend!!

is this this weekend?

Yes, it is!

The weather for Saturday on Mount washington and in Twin Mountain both list only 20% chance of precipitation. It has been very nice here for three days in a row, so the trails are drying out this week. Looking better all the time!

Maybe I should start a separate thread, but does anyone else on this hike like scotch?

Ah perfer bourbon, myself. In fact, I may bring a touch o' Gentleman Jim with me. O' course, my Ol' Grand Dad's been known to make an appearance too... ;)

Hey, if I reach my goal, you dang well better believe Ah'm raising a toast to us all! Who am I kidding? I'll raise a toast to us all even if I cramp up and crap out goin' up Madison! My hat's off to everyone who has made a donation of their time, money, and/or energy to this noble cause. Y'all are the best! :)

latest weather map (GFS) show not a hint of precip pretty much all weekend - lets keep them fingers crossed - I think it should be ok -

Warm temps projected so possible afternoon noise, lights & rain is always possible when the valleys are warm, so early starts are good.

I'm planning on hitting Jackson also although list notables for me are 4th season for Madison, 13th Washington visit, 10th for Monroe.

Regarding food for Friday Night Saturday Night. I'll maybe be around a little on Friday, will likely do Martha from CMR (3.8 each way only about 1400 feet of gain) & I'll be eating pizza (likely)in Gorham. Don't know about Saturday, that will depend on when I stop hiking & get back to Appalachia.

That said, I'll bring a 12 pack (I'll likely only have 2 or 3) & I'd either bring $20 for food or can buy something up there for cooking but I won't have a cooler for it. Any suggestions on which you would rather have, 5 pounds of burgers (where can I buy those up there?) or the $20 to defray cost for someone who is buying food?

Gorham is the only place in the area for "real" food. Wayne's Market in Woodstock has some decent meat, but it tends to be pricey. Money always comes in handy. I should be able to make a run to a store if someone lets me know in advance. I'm staying with my folks at Israel River CG but will be by CMR on Friday and Saturday, as hikers are finishing their little jaunts.

I am more of a bourbon drinker but I've been known to enjoy a good scotch now and then. If I make it to Jackson while you are there I would be honored to help you celebrate!

is anyone interested in the howker ridge - with a 3am start to get a nice sunrise above treeline? weather looks good for it.

mike p- I guess probably the burgers would be better - but its up to you. I think people should just bring what they plan to eat and its thier call if they want to bring extra - I will probably bring a bit of extra food to share, but not too much

Do the CMR sites have trees and open spaces appropriate to hang a Hennessey Hammock?

In spite of a car disaster (blew the fuel pump in the left lane of Rte 3) and an overcommitted week (photographing our team for the Chase Corporate Challenge on Thursday evening) I'm still planning to come up to CMR for Friday night, hopefully arriving between 6 and 7 and then stashing my car over at the bottom of the Crawford Path.

Michael, From memory, the sites themselves are pretty much just an open field, not populated with trees, other than the surrounding areas. Probably not hammock friendly unless you want to camp in the outskirts.

The beer will be there. A quarter keg (roughly 80, 12oz glasses), of Sam Adams will be cold and ready for Saturday evening.

I have roughly $200 in donations for TBTS, that will be there Friday evening.
