Giggy: "dude - are you freaking kiddin' me - this is awesome"

Thank Scott Beidermann from Chase Street Market on Main Street in Plymouth, NH. for the beer.

Thank me and the Plymouth Rotary Club for the monetary donations.

Our pleasure

for a keg a beer, I will thank whomever and whioever and then somem

now that my mom donated - I am up to 45 bucks. I must have asked close to 50 people - funny - a story just ran in the paper about even though mass is very liberal on the political scale, we are near the bottom as far as volenteering, and charity giving. guess its true!!

paradox just made many freinds :D :D :D

MichaelJ: site #3 is hammock friendly from what I recall. You should have no problems whatsoever. Sorry to hear about the fuel pump. Recollection has it that it's not a cheap fix in the 'Ru

It figures, the one time that someone brings a keg, I can't drink! (well, maybe one...). This no hiking, no kayaking, no drinking, no partying, no driving crap is getting pretty lame!!!

My mom is still holdin' out, but my broke-ass ol' college roommate ponied up $20. Thanks Brother Jim!! This brings my total up to $75, $55 of which is on the firstgiving site. I've still got some hope for getting donations from a few more stragglers. :)

If I can make it over to CMR after the hike, I will definately make the aquaintance of Paradox (or at least his keg!) :D

is anyone interested in the howker ridge - with a 3am start to get a nice sunrise above treeline? weather looks good for it.

I'm game for the early start. One of the best sunrises I ever saw was from Grey Knob. Never been up that way. Book says care needed to follow trail. Will this be hard in the dark?

we'll just use care :D :D -

k seriously - I am pretty comfy traveling in the dark (many alpine winter starts) - so we'll be ok. Now if I am too hungover.................................

Hey - just want to pop-in a last minute idea. I haven't had very good luck raising money at work, but a woman I don't know just donated $20 as she overcame a brain tumor. I told her that if she gave me a picture of herself I would attach it to my backpack for the hike to honor a survivor.

I am also planning to have a picture of a sweet family Lab. who past away yesterday from diabetes. :(

Thanks for the campsite beta; I'll bring along both hammock and 1-person tent in the car and scope something out before spotting the car.
:)

SK - the "gold" warranty coverage I have changed the cost from almost $600 to only $50. Gotta love that extended warranties pay off sometimes.

Well, somebody has to do it... I'm approaching $1400 plus 50 Argentine Pesos!! (It's an international event now!!) Easily over $100/peak. :D It's been fun hearing from buddies that I haven't had time to touch base with. There's plenty of work to do when I get back collecting...

Sweet'nin' the pot

Way to go, bubba.

I've tried to come up with some additional incentive for everyone on this hike. One thought was to have bubba wear the VFTT apron for the entire hike and I would give extra $$$ for every mile and peak but decided this would be cruel and unusual punishment. He'll have a tough enough time just making it in his new powder blue pants and not his Lycra.

Another was to have a call-in like you hear on the radio, "Be the 10th caller and win a Whoop-de-Doo." Nah, too complicated.

But here's what I've decided to do. I'll donate an extra $1 to TBTS for every VFTTer I talk to from the summit of Mt. Washington. When you reach the summit, just call from the pay phone or use your cell (admit it, you carry it, don't you?). If there are others with you, just put them on, too. It's not the number of calls I get, but the number of VFTTers I talk to. Hikers, runners, even if you just drove up. Simple, eh? Just ring me up and say, "Hi, teejay, this is 'whoever'." Cha-ching. Not only that, it'll be on my nickel (Yeah, right!!). And, if you're "lucky" enough to be on and I hear the cog whistle in the background, another $1 (No fair bribing the engineer).

Call 800 575-6598. This comes right to my home phone. Or, if you have Verizon Wireless, call my Verizon cell 315 689-1883. Should be a free call.

Can't wait for Saturday and satisfying my vicarious desire to be there, if only in spirit.

teejay

I'll be calling tee-jay

Starting early so I may not see many people but I'll likely be under-dressed for whatever the conditions are, I'm usually way warmer than everyone.

red wraparound framed sunglasses from one of I-90 rest stops
tank top, likely gray or possible white mesh, could be in a TNF T if temp is around 40 up top

shorts most likely, it'll have to feel like 30 to get me in pants, likely tan convertible pants with the legs zipped off.

likely wearing a white mesh Runners world hat (logo RRS)

Teal EMS pack

hair yes plenty  , pepper & salt under the hat,

Um, Guy. Do you have extra camp chairs for Jay and I?? Can you add them to the growing list of gear you are bringing for us?

I have raised $230 so far. I have a few more people to hit up for donations todya. Hopefully, I will get at least $250.

carol - going to bring 2 - thats all I have. maybe someone lese can bring a couple extra?

gonna be a hot one it seems - might have to take a dive in the bush to avoid a quick boomer too!!

take that over them dang 4 inch rain storms anyday -

recent trail condtions on howker ridge (late may) claims there are many blowdows. - probably still going to go up that tough, since i am allerigic( ;) arm) to valley way.

Gotta watch for a T-storm fer sure!

If you're lookin' fer me on da trail, I'm now clean shaven for the summer. I'll have my trademark faded blue "Life is Good" hat, khaiki convertable pants and a red Lowe Alpine pack that I'll be taping a VFTT logo on.

If anyone wants to mark their pack like this, all you need to do is:
1.) Go to the welcome page of the site
2.) Click and drag the logo to your desktop
3.) Print the logo
4.) Tape it to your pack using clear packing tape!

This is probably the easiest (and cheapest) way for us to be able to identify each other. I'll try to bring extra logos with me too!

more food for thought - I have a parking pass on my car, but taking my truck this weekend - its 3 bucks a night for CMR and/or the trailheads (ammo, CP, etc..) - I am actually going to stop at exit 28 and buy a 7 day pass for 5 bucks - this is easier than fecking with them kiosks, making sure you have the change, etc..

how you will know it me - this is the best way, its summer, I will be sleeveless and I have 2 tatooes on both my upper arms - one is celtic cross and one is a skull with tribal work - this should be best way to identify me -
And I look just like brad pitt ;) ;) ;) ;)

What route are most people taking for this?

At this point I'm thinking I'm out. I've been stuck in Florida working around the clock all week and I'm at the point of exhaustion where I can't fathom hiking. That being said, hopefully one good night's sleep will be all it takes.

With all the extra hours I've put in I can easily take off anytime Friday, would love to have a hiking buddy or two to boost my morale.

Kindest regards,
Shayne

OK, I sent everybody in my distribution list an email.. Just to reiterate it here:

---
I spoke with Wayne, aka skiguy last night. I just got to work after finishing installing my Wood Stove (bring on winter, damm the gas companies!) and now into feverish plan mode.

The idea for us as it stands now, is that Skiguy who has a Honda Element (not sure what color, should of asked..) with I assume NH plates will be the designated shuttle person. He said he is going to hike up one of the peaks probably north of Washington and distribute snickers or something like that and then eventually head back down the Jewell trail and hang out at the AMC Highland center. The Highland center is the official end of the hike, whether you come down the Crawford path or you go do Webster/Jackson and come back via the Webster/Jackson Trail which I think still brings you back to the Highland center. IF, you desperately need a ride and there isn't anybody there that has a car there, we will try to shuttle you back to CMR or to your car, etc. Just be patient, Wayne might not want to just shuttle you by yourself if there is a known group a short time back, it doesn't make sense and isn't fair to Wayne.
Wayne says he's going to get a VfTT sticker and wear that somewhere on his body so you can figure out who he is on the trail. He might have another distinctive marker as I just returned from Party City... ;) ;) It should be obvious and it does have a presidential kind of theme to it. HaHa, whether Wayne wants to wear it...(another hint), is up to him. I got one for me too... I have a green short sleeve VfTT shirt that I will wear, in anycase... and I'm Chinese so that typically makes it fairly easy to spot me...

OK, as far as food goes, looks like we're only going to have one grill, but we should have 2 tanks of propane. Which means cooking should be done as efficient as possible. While some are showering, some can be eating and grilling, and then vice versa... Again, I'm sure we'll work everything out though... If anybody perhaps closeby has a basic hibachi with some charcoal briquettes, that might help but I think we're good either way. I have one but no way I can bring that on the plane... I don't think Southwest would approve of this!

See ya all on friday or saturday... If I have anything more to say, I'll try to send it ASAP...
And a big thanks should go out to Wayne in advance for the support and to all of you for coming. Looking forward to good weather!

Jay
